Coconut Silkening Hair Mask

You Will Need:

  • Raw Coconut Oil (found at most grocery & health food stores)
  • Microwave-safe bowl & source of heat (microwave, stovetop)
  • One egg (optional)
  • Plastic wrap or a plastic bag

How to Make It:

Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature, and requires heat to become a liquid.  Scoop two to three spoonfuls into your bowl, and microwave the oil until it becomes a liquid (only a few seconds!)  Next, crack the egg into the same bowl, and use a fork to beat the egg and oil together.

How to Use It:

Cover your shoulders with a towel, because this can get messy!  Use your fingers or an old paint brush to apply the mixture to your hair, from roots to tips.  Focus on the ends, where hair tends to be the most dry.  The egg will make your hair feel stiff, but that’s normal.  Once you’ve applied the mixture to your whole head, pin or clip your hair up off of your shoulders.  Using your plastic wrap or plastic bag, cover your hair and head for about a half an hour.  The plastic will lock heat in, which helps the concoction to work better!  Remove the plastic and rinse.

Foot Scrub & Soak

You Will Need:

  • Baking Soda
  • A tub or large bowl that will fit your feet!
  • Warm water

How to Do It:

Soak your feet in warm water for a few minutes (this could also be done after a shower or bath!)  Put a tablespoon or two of baking soda into the palm of your hand or a washcloth, and use this to gently scrub your heels, etc.  Do this for a few minutes and rinse - baking soda is abrasive, but won’t damage the skin, and can also even out discoloration of the skin.

Other Uses:

Baking soda can be used as a scrub all over the body.  Scrubbing with baking soda can help remove the hyperpigmentation caused by razor burn.

Yummy, Soothing Face Mask:

You will need:

  • A banana
  • Honey
  • Lemon Juice

How to Make It:

Blend a whole banana in a blender, and add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to create the mask.

How to Do It:

Apply the paste all over your face, and leave on for 15 minutes.  Rinse off gently with warm water.

Moisturizing Body Soak

You Will Need:

  • Bathtub filled with warm water
  • Cup of milk
  • Drizzle of olive oil

How to Do It:

Add the milk and oil to your bath for a heavenly soaking experience!  Milk is a natural moisturizer and will also reduce redness.  It will help soften the roughest skin!

Sunburn Relief

To soothe a fresh sunburn:

Mix a tablespoon of baking soda into a quart or so of cold water.  Use a washcloth to sponge this onto your skin.

To prevent peeling:

Use a cotton ball dipped in vinegar to wipe the burned area.  This will work as a toner.  **Witch Hazel will also work**

Clarifying Rinse

How to do it:

Mix two spoonfuls of baking soda with warm water in a cup.  Pour this through your scalp little by little, massaging your scalp with your fingers.  Once you’ve done this to all of your hair, rinse your whole head with cold water.

**Alternative Method**  Mix one part Apple Cider Vinegar with one part water.  Use the same way.

To Get Rid of Dandruff:

  • Rub Tea Tree Oil into your scalp daily
  • Use plain (yellow) Listerine on your scalp every day for 15 minutes before rinsing
Moisturizing & Firming Facial Mask

For soothing dry skin

Ingredients

+ 2 Egg Whites

+ 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt (no flavor)

How to Use it

Mix these two ingredients together and apply to a damp face as evenly as possible. When the mask is dry, rinse off with warm water and a washcloth. This mask will brighten your complexion and soothe any redness or dry patches.  USING JUST EGG WHITES: this one ingredient will firm and tone your skin, and is an old-time favorite for treating pimples.

Olive Oil Dry Skin Cleansing

Removes all makeup and moisturizes skin without chemicals

Ingredients:

+ Olive Oil (Extra Virgin if possible)

+ Warm Water

How to Use it:

Simply apply the olive oil to your face with your fingers… a generous amount (small palm full). Massage the oil onto your face with your hands for a good minute or two to increase blood flow to the face and relax muscles. Makeup will melt right off. To remove eye makeup, apply a drop of oil to a cotton ball and wipe your eyes. Olive oil is organic and is very gentle on the eyes.. it’s non-irritating and very hydrating. It will not clog pores or cause breakouts whatsoever, and will actually remove dirt and sebum from your pores - without drying chemicals that will make your skin sensitive. Simply rinse your face well with warm water.

Aspirin Mask

Treats blemishes and reduces redness caused by pimples

Ingredients:

+ 2 tablets of uncoated aspirin (not ibuprofen or acetaminophen) OR powder aspirin

+ Warm water (if you have dry skin, honey is a good substitute)

How to Make it:

In the palm of your hand, or in a bowl, place the aspirin, and add a few drops of warm water. Four should do it. Wait a few minutes as the aspirin begins to dissolve. If needed, apply more water, until the aspirin becomes a thick paste - stir to make sure the mixture is as smooth as possible.

How to Use it:

Rinse your face with warm water and make sure there is no makeup or moisturizer on your skin. With your finger, dab the paste onto your blemishes, and then allow it to dry. You can wait 10 minutes, a half hour, or even keep it on while you sleep. Rinse away with warm water and a washcloth, and pat your skin dry. Aspirin contains a high concentration of salicylic acid, which is a common ingredient in anti-acne products.

Other Possible Uses:

To prevent acne, you can apply this mask over your entire face. The salicylic acid treats and prevents breakouts. This shouldn’t be used too often, because over a wide area it can be drying.

Lip Scrub

Ingredients:

+ A spoon full of regular sugar (granulated) - brown or white

+ A spoon full of honey (if you don’t have honey, use a couple drops of olive oil, or Vaseline)

+ Small container to keep scrub in - or make for a 1-time use

How to Make it:

In your small container, or a bowl/plate, just gently mix the two ingredients together. The scrub should be gritty, so that it will easily slough off the dead skin on your lips.

How to Use it:

With your finger, just simply scoop up a bit of the scrub and apply to moistened lips. Simply rub back and forth vigorously on your upper and lower lip for about 45 seconds to a minute. Then wipe off the scrub with a warm washcloth! Your lips will be smooth and plump, and will taste divine! By scrubbing your lips you will cause increased circulation to your lips, making them more pigmented and healthy. You’re also creating a smoother surface on which to apply lip color!

Other Possible Uses:

This could also be used as a gentle exfoliant for your skin; since sugar will dissolve in water, it won’t be too abrasive on your skin. Make sure you wash it off well. It’s a great idea when you’ve run out of your favorite scrub and have a dry patch! The honey/oil/vaseline is very moisturizing.
